Density and tonnage of vegetable oil

Correct the density from 15 °C for the measured temperature and convert the volume to metric tonnes. If the loading port has a density list, enter the density yourself.

From a density list at the loading port. No correction is applied: the density at 15 °C and the factor are ignored.
Leave empty for the default: 0.00068 per °C.

    Frequently asked questions

Why correct the density for temperature?

The volume of oil depends on temperature, the mass does not. To get from a measured volume to the right weight, you need the density at the measured temperature, not at the reference temperature.

Which correction factor should I use?

The tool starts at 0.00068 per °C, the value used in the EU for vegetable oil. For a specific oil or a contract term you can enter another factor.

What if the loading port has a density list?

Many loading ports give a density for each temperature in a density list. Enter that under Own density; the tool then applies no correction and converts the volume to tonnes with that density.

    Which units do I use?

Density in tonnes per m³ (equal to kg/l), temperature in degrees Celsius and volume in m³. The result is in metric tonnes (MT).
